چکیده

INTRODUCTION Skeletal metastases are the most common complication of malignancies such as breast and prostate cancers [1]. In tumour-induced osteolysis, bone resorption is increased by the neoplastic activation of osteoclasts which results in rapid bone loss, change in the architectural integrity and ultimately, the load-bearing capacity of the affected bone. Fracture risk is increased by this deterioration in bone structure. The purpose of this pilot study is to assess the efficacy of anti-resorptive (Ibandronate) and chemotherapeutic (Paclitaxel) drug treatments in preserving skeletal integrity in terms of structural and biomechanical parameters, using an experimental model of tumour-induced osteolysis.

Beware of Bone Marrow: Incidental Detection and Primary Diagnosis of Solid Tumours in Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsies; A Study of 22 Cases

Background & objective: Introduction: First detection of any solid tumour as metastatic deposits in bone marrow directs clinicians to start searching for the primary tumour. Detection of bone marrow metastasis determines the stage of the malignancy, prognosis, mode of treatment, chemotherapeutic response and follow-up in case of relapse. The aim of the current...

Massive osteolysis ( Gorham,s disease) and report a case

Gotham's disease or vanishing bone is a rare disease with unknown etiology. Frequently, children and young adults are affected. It is characterized by proliferation of vascular or lymphatic tissue which results in destruction and resorption of bone. In this disease, the destructed bone is replaced either by hemangiomatous or lymphangiomatous tissue ( s) and in a later stage, fibrosis occurs. It...

Comparative Effects of Ibandronate and Paclitaxel on Immunocompetent Bone Metastasis Model

PURPOSE Bone metastasis invariably increases morbidity and mortality. This study compares the effects of ibandronate and paclitaxel on bone structure and its mechanical properties and biochemical turnover in resorption markers using an immunocompetent Walker 256-Sprague-Dawley model, which was subjected to tumor-induced osteolysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Seventy rats were divided equally into ...

2-methoxyestradiol analogue ENMD-1198 reduces breast cancer-induced osteolysis and tumor burden both in vitro and in vivo.

It has been estimated that 70% of advanced breast cancer patients will face the complication of bone metastases. Three processes are pivotal during bone metastatic growth of breast cancer, namely, tumor cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and osteolysis. During tumor-induced osteolysis, a number of cytokines and growth factors are released from the degraded bone matrix. These factors stimulate fu...

Tumour necrosis factor superfamily cytokines and the pathogenesis of inflammatory osteolysis.

Periarticular osteolysis is a debilitating complication of inflammatory arthritis. While controversy exists as to whether pannus, itself, is capable of degrading bone, the osteoclast is clearly the principal, if not exclusive, bone resorptive cell in rheumatoid disease and other osteopenic disorders. Thus, the treatment of inflammatory osteolysis depends upon understanding the means by which th...
